My fascination with butterflies goes back to my childhood, but only recently have I really tried to photograph them. It is not easy. Much of the time they are quick, nervous, and don't suffer photographers gladly. I found a wildlife meadow near Storrington in West Sussex, where there were thousands of the little blighters. So off I went, camera on my shoulder, chasing around this field trying to catch suitable subjects, I was knackered when I'd finished and had only one good shot to offer, a pair of chalk hill blues that were to busy mating to bother about me. Not to be deterred I went back again...and again...and again, until I think they got to know me. It is probably about approach, I seem to have more luck catching them with my camera now than I had before.
The butterfly season is over for this year so I will have to bide my time until next year when I will no doubt embark upon another butterfly fest. In the meantime, enjoy my slideshow
